Three Minors Arrested in San Juan School Robbery Case
Three Minors Arrested in Attempted School Break-In
Three minors aged 13, 16, and 17 were arrested by Puerto Rico police on Thursday night after private security personnel caught them attempting to break into the Ramón Power y Giralt school in the San Juan metropolitan area. The individuals were discovered in the process of climbing the school perimeter by security officers from Genesis Security, the company contracted to monitor the facility. Security personnel immediately activated established emergency protocols and notified police, who arrived rapidly and apprehended the suspects before they could escape with stolen items.
Stolen Equipment Recovered
Police recovered a bag in the possession of the suspects containing several laptops that had been taken from a classroom within the school premises, as well as a fire extinguisher. The recovery of the stolen equipment was aided by the rapid response of both the private security team and law enforcement officers. All three minors were taken into custody and turned over to the appropriate juvenile justice authorities given their ages. Puerto Rico's juvenile justice system handles cases involving minors separately from the adult criminal court system, with an emphasis on rehabilitation alongside accountability.
A Pattern of School Break-Ins Being Disrupted
Authorities noted that this case is part of a recent pattern of attempted burglaries at educational facilities that have been successfully disrupted by timely security responses and the effective operation of electronic surveillance systems. Genesis Security, which holds surveillance contracts at multiple schools across Puerto Rico, pointed to the case as an example of the value of professional security presence and properly functioning CCTV infrastructure in protecting public educational property. School administrators and Puerto Rico's Department of Education have been working in recent years to strengthen security at facilities island-wide following concerns about property theft and vandalism affecting schools across multiple municipalities.
