Hilton and Hampton Inn Bring Hotel Investment to Puerto Rico
Major Hotel Investment Wave Arrives in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico's hotel sector is experiencing one of its most significant expansion waves in recent memory, with multiple major international hospitality brands announcing new properties scheduled to open across the island in 2026. The wave of investment reflects sustained and growing confidence from the global hospitality industry in Puerto Rico's tourism trajectory following five consecutive years of record-breaking visitor numbers and hotel revenue performance.
Hilton's Dual-Brand Convention District Development
The largest new hotel project is Hilton's dual-brand development in San Juan's Convention Center District, which combines Hampton by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton within a single 175,000-square-foot tower. The development offers 257 total guest rooms across the two brands, representing a $77 million public-private investment. The project is part of Hilton's stated strategy to more than double its presence in Puerto Rico, reinforcing San Juan as a stronger hub for both business travel and leisure tourism in the Caribbean. The Convention Center District location positions the property to capture both convention-goers and leisure travellers seeking central San Juan accommodation.
Hampton Inn Ponce and Hilton Garden Inn Dorado
In the south, the Fleming Hotel Hampton Inn Ponce represents a $66.7 million investment in a eight-story, 130-room property with casino facilities, forming part of the larger 150,000-square-foot Ponce Business Center. Completion is targeted for 2026. On Puerto Rico's sought-after northern coast, the Hilton Garden Inn Dorado is scheduled to open in December 2026, offering 153 rooms in a 120,000-square-foot property featuring a rooftop lounge, infinity pool, and fitness centre. Combined with the 2025 arrival of the Four Seasons Resort Puerto Rico, these openings cement the island's reputation as a destination capable of attracting world-class hospitality investment and delivering luxury and upper-midscale accommodation options that meet the expectations of international travellers.
