Puerto Rico to Host Routes Americas 2027 Aviation
Puerto Rico Chosen to Host Routes Americas 2027
Puerto Rico has been selected to host the 20th edition of Routes Americas in 2027, one of the aviation industry's most influential air service development conferences. The announcement was made by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, which will co-host the event with the goal of strengthening air connectivity between North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The selection follows one of the most successful years in Puerto Rico's tourism history, with the island welcoming over 6.8 million passenger arrivals through Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in 2025 — a year-on-year increase of more than 3%.
San Juan's strategic geographic location at the intersection of North American, Latin American, and Caribbean air routes makes it an ideal hub for the gathering of airline executives, airport authorities, and destination representatives. The event is designed to facilitate new route discussions and accelerate network growth for participating airports and destinations.
Tourism Expansion and Sustainability
Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles-Cancel noted that hosting Routes Americas 2027 is both an honour and a significant responsibility, recognising the island's strategic importance in aviation development throughout the Americas. Routes Director Steven Small praised Puerto Rico's "clear and sustainable international growth strategy," noting the island's culture-centred tourism approach and its proven ability to host major industry events.
Governor Jenniffer González Colón highlighted the milestone as a "powerful endorsement of the international community's strong confidence in the island's stability, vision, and proven ability to successfully deliver an event of this magnitude." With decision-makers from more than 90 leading airlines expected to attend Routes Americas 2027, the event offers a unique platform for Puerto Rico to showcase its competitive value proposition to global aviation leaders. Increased airline connectivity, booming cruise tourism, and continued hotel infrastructure investment have cemented Puerto Rico's position as a world-class destination and a vital hub for hemispheric connectivity.
